About the Creator
Chen’s science fiction grows out of questions about lived reality. Discussing Waste Tide, he considered the gap between rapid technological change and people’s capacity to absorb it. In a 2019 interview, he described writing as a way to pose consequential questions and respond to the world.
Moving a story from prose to the screen requires a different construction. As original author and story head writer of Shen Bi (TBC), Chen explained in a 2026 interview how adaptation responds to audience, short-form pacing and technical possibilities through changes to characters and collaboration.
He also considers how writers retain judgment when working with AI. He advocates thinking independently before seeking feedback from tools. His dialogue with Xiaobai extends these questions to spontaneity and the ways later explanations reshape an author’s understanding of the writing process.
