Yi Lin

伊琳

Yi Lin (1915–1979), born Xu Chongqi in Shen'gou village, Chaoyang, Guangdong, was a Chinese screenwriter and director. After working as an English typist in Shanghai, he joined the Shanghai National Salvation Drama Troupe No. 3 in 1937 and arrived in Yan'an in 1938 to study at the Lu Xun Academy of Arts, joining the Communist Party the same year. He served as a drama instructor in the Taihang branch of the academy and as head of the experimental troupe of the Eighth Route Army headquarters, before entering the Northeast Film Studio in 1946, where he wrote and directed Leave Him to Fight Chiang Kai-shek (1948) — the first short fiction film of people's cinema. He co-directed Heroes of Lüliang (1950) with Lü Ban, later worked at the Central Film Bureau and Changchun Film Studio, helped train filmmakers in Vietnam (1956), and finally directed at the Pearl River Film Studio in Guangzhou, where his major work Waves Washing Away the Sand (1966) was made. He died in 1979.

伊琳(1915—1979),原名许崇琪,广东潮阳深沟乡人,中国电影导演、编剧。1938 年赴延安入鲁迅艺术学院,从延安到东北电影制片厂再到珠江电影制片厂,执导《留下他打老蒋》《吕梁英雄》《大浪淘沙》等影片;《大浪淘沙》为其重要代表作。曾赴越南帮助培训电影艺术创作人员。
