Zhuang Wei
庄炜Zhuang Wei is a documentary maker and independent artist from Chaoshan, working primarily with moving images and writing. In 2021, Zhuang joined the Folk Memory Project at Caochangdi Workstation.
About the Creator
Born in 1999 and also known as A Zui, Zhuang works with film, text and socially engaged practices. Film projects include Zhuang Wei De Zui (Zhuang Wei’s Mouth, TBC) and Zhuang Wei De Jianzheng: Xingcunzhe Guilai (Zhuang Wei’s Testimony: A Survivor’s Return, TBC). The latter also extends into a long-form writing project.
The account of the latter film begins with a meeting after Zhuang moves back to Chaoshan: great-uncle A Jun has returned from Cambodia. The film follows their developing relationship through time spent together and repeated visits, as the filmmaker encounters the experiences he brings home.
