About the Work
Brave Farewell to Hardship is a 4-minute-11-second Chaoshan-language animation made by Wu Meilin as an undergraduate graduation work at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The exhibition text presents it as a work about family trauma and reconciliation, expressing the hope that children affected by that trauma can grow into adults able to protect themselves and those they love, and that women watching it can find strength.
The film appeared in School of Transmedia 2024, with Liu Lihua as supervising teacher. The exhibition displayed a trailer and stills online and directed viewers to the academy's museum for the complete film.
