Chen Jianhang
陈坚杭Chen Jianhang is a director, screenwriter and arts educator from Chaozhou. His work moves between documentary, experimental film and fiction; his feature The River That Holds Our Hands premiered at Busan in 2025.
About the Creator
After studying at Shantou University, Chen completed a master's degree in experimental film at Kingston University in the UK. His early work includes a documentary filmed in Chaozhou and experimental shorts, alongside a continuing interest in migration, memory and family histories.
The River That Holds Our Hands follows a search prompted by an old family photograph. Moving between Hong Kong and Vietnam, it lets present-day encounters, recollection and imagination overlap. The film had its world premiere in the Window on Asian Cinema programme at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, and Chen received a new-director award at Eye Catcher Global in Hong Kong.
