擁啊擁ong6 a7 ong6The River That Holds Our Hands is Chen Jianhang's feature about a filmmaker searching in Vietnam with a decades-old family photograph, in a story that also moves through Hong Kong. In the Chinese title, ong6 a7 ong6 represents the Teochew pronunciation of 擁啊擁.
About the Work
An elderly woman in Hong Kong dreams of scenes from her childhood. In Vietnam, a documentary filmmaker follows the traces of a family photograph taken seventy years earlier. Encounters along the way bring present-day streets into contact with memory and imagination, while the family's history moves between places and generations.
Chen's earlier short The River That Holds My Hand was an initial visual and narrative exploration of the feature's subject. Completed as The River That Holds Our Hands, the feature had its world premiere in the Window on Asian Cinema programme at the 30th Busan International Film Festival in 2025.
The screenplay is by Chen Jianhang, Yang Jiabao and Huang Han. Lin Ziyang is the producer, and Chen Baiqi is the coordinating producer.
