洪玉桔Ang Geck Geck is a Singaporean director of Teochew heritage. Her first feature, Ah Girl, draws on childhood memories to explore family life from a child’s perspective.
About the Creator
Ah Girl grew out of Ang’s memories of Singapore in the 1990s. In her discussion at KwanTeo CineLab in Shantou in July 2026, she recalled carrying the idea for roughly twelve years before it became her first feature.
Her work with the young cast began with getting to know the children. In an IFFR interview, she described taking the two lead performers on outings connected to scenes in the script. Building trust and observing their personalities helped shape the film as well as their performances.
