About the Creator
The first season of 《还有烟火的地方》 is a micro-documentary collection that began shooting in 2021 and premiered on 南方+ in 2022; it tells six cultural stories around the theme of “home”, including a third chapter on the 东兴汇路 侨批 story. 《还有烟火的地方2》 is a second-season documentary feature that started shooting in March 2022 and follows the breakthrough of 潮汕 英歌 culture through 2025.
Other works include the 2018 Shier Nian Yici Laoye Huan Pao (Changing the Deity's Robe Once Every Twelve Years, TBC), which documents the Chaoshan custom of changing a deity's robe, and Shi Nong (Stone Artisan, TBC), a five-year portrait of a Chaoshan stone-carving artisan. His 2023 series includes Wo Zai Zhongguo Xue Yingge (Learning Yingge in China, TBC), Qishi Yingge Bu Zhi Yizhong (There Is More Than One Kind of Yingge, TBC) and You'er Yingge De “Meng” San Shi (Three “Cute” Moves in Children's Yingge, TBC).
In 2024 he completed the Yingge Chu Hai (Yingge Goes Overseas, TBC) series: Yingge Zou Qin (Yingge Visits Kin, TBC), Malai Yingge Youdian Chao and Tuanju (Reunion, TBC).
In 2016 his short film 《还有烟火的地方》 won a bronze award in the “寻·展古村落” public-interest micro-video competition (organised by the 中山市博爱 100 公益项目); in 2023 《潮魂英歌》 was recommended by the 中央网信办, with eight spin-off products reaching Weibo and Douyin trending lists; and in 2025 he received the “年味文化传播达人” title for appearing in the 珠江电影集团 documentary 《粤有年味》.
