Hai You Yanhuo De Difang
还有烟火的地方Directed by Zheng Yijian, 《还有烟火的地方》 follows Chen Ye’s return to restore an ancestral home and a young Yingge practitioner known in the film as “Xiao Er.” This documentary in production explores family ties and young people’s lives in Chaoshan.
About the Work
Chen Ye’s homecoming and restoration of an ancestral house form the film’s main thread, bringing together work on the Qifeng Chen ancestral hall, the Huodi temple festival and overseas Chinese families seeking their roots. A second story follows “Xiao Er,” a young Yingge practitioner who starts a campus dance team and pursues Yingge after graduation, navigating cultural inheritance, personal growth and the pressures of daily life.
Three Spring Festivals mark turns in the narrative, against the background of Yingge’s wider recognition in 2023, overseas performances in 2024 and experiments across cultural forms in 2025. Zheng’s earlier micro-documentaries shared the Chinese title 《还有烟火的地方》, followed by 《还有烟火的地方2》. The new film continues his observation of Chaoshan homes and Yingge practice.
China’s National Film Administration approved the documentary for production in a 2026 filing. A 2027 release is planned, but no date has been announced.
