KwanTeo Night — 2017
观潮之夜2017"The most magnificent feast of filmmakers Shantou has ever seen" (February 1, 2017, Hesheng Cinema): public forum, filmmakers' dinner, screenings, and a reception — Chaoshan filmmakers gathering for the first time under one roof at Spring Festival.

In the afternoon, a public forum took over the atrium of the Hesheng shopping complex. Industry guests included producer Ye Qing of the Pearl River Film Group, who advised young filmmakers to balance artistry and commerce; Wu Boping, whose new project was about to receive Golden Horse Fund support; and Hu Lufeng of Shantou University. In the evening came the filmmakers' dinner, followed by screenings at Hesheng Cinema and a reception.
Four shorts by four Chaoshan directors screened that night: Chen Guancheng's Xiangqiao Bridge, Cai Jie's Returning Home, Lin Erhao's The City, and Wu Boping's Sheng Lan's Secret Garden. The signboard at the entrance was soon covered with names — young Chaoshan filmmakers, film students, art-world figures — a quick sketch of a Chaoshan film community taking shape.
The event gave Springtime KwanTeo its first full social scene: not just screenings, but creators, industry people, and audiences inside one building on the same day. The annual gathering of Chaoshan youth cinema became fixed on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year in Shantou.
