KwanTeo Night — 2019
观潮之夜2019The same appointment on the fifth day of the New Year (February 8–9, 2019, Shantou): a creator salon with Lan Canzhao on day one, then four short films on the big screen at the 1860 Cultural & Creative Park — arriving from Beijing, Taipei, London, and Hong Kong, two of them shot in Chaoshan.

The 2019 announcement made few grand claims; it simply repeated the "appointment on the fifth day" to old friends. On the fourth evening, Lan Canzhao — who would later take Summer's End Poem to Berlin and Toronto — spoke at 18FCocktail about independent production and the festival circuit. The next day, the screenings moved to the 1860 Cultural & Creative Park.
The four shorts traced the geography of Chaoshan youth cinema: Huang Gang's Rain over the Border and Chen Jianhang's Haunting were both shot in Chaoshan; Xu Zhehan's Inside/Outside came from London; Xu Mingshan's Hui from Hong Kong; another arrived from Taipei. The films were varied and distinctive, and the post-screening conversations followed. The announcement also promised a themed retrospective from the sixth day to the Lantern Festival — "follow the film map" for those who had missed earlier editions.
From the 2017 "feast" at the Hesheng complex to the 2019 "appointment" at 1860, Springtime KwanTeo settled into a temporal grammar of its own: a salon to warm up on the fourth, the screening gathering on the fifth, and a retrospective roam afterward.
