About the Topic
The midsummer gathering brought workshops, exchanges and screenings to Shantou in August 2023. KwanTeo Night was its short-film programme on 19 August, presenting three works with different ways of looking at the region.
An animated film by Denis Do follows a Chaoshan family across generations; a documentary turns to Chaozhou's natural world; and He Yupeng's A Bright Sunny Day centres on a young man deciding whether to stay in his rural home or leave. Lan Canzhao worked on the latter film as writer, producer and supervisor. Seen together, the films move between family memory, landscape and a younger generation's choices.
