Cloud in the sky
云Cloud in the sky is a 2016 Cantonese short film directed by Yang Zhelin. During a visit to his grandmother, who has Alzheimer's disease, Yang hears his family debate her care and begins to reconsider his distance from them.
About the Work
Yang and his mother Shan return to their hometown to see her mother. Relatives gather, but Yang and his cousin barely know one another. While one uncle proposes a nursing home and another mentions euthanasia, Shan places her hope in blessed water brought from a temple.
The grandmother listens from another room as the family discusses her future. For Yang, who has felt detached from questions of family and mortality, the visit begins to change how he sees them.
