The Little Pigeon's Home

小鸽子的家

The Little Pigeon's Home is a feature directed by Wu Jia and set in Chaozhou in the late 1990s. It follows schoolboy Wu Kai as his encounters with racing pigeons begin to change how he sees himself.

About the Work

Wu Kai's classmates mock him for raising an unremarkable pigeon. When a celebrated racing bird enters his life, he hopes it might earn him their respect. Over time, his understanding of the bird changes, and he decides to let it go.

The pigeon's owner, an older man called Jun, responds by giving Wu Kai a young bird. Set among the architecture and ancestral halls of Chaozhou, the film tells its coming-of-age story through the boy's changing relationship with the pigeons and their owner.
