About the Creator
In Proud of Me, a father hopes education will give his son a secure future, while the son leaves school, moves between jobs and eventually goes to Shenzhen. Back to Love shifts the tension to a couple working in Shenzhen: the man has kept his relationship from his mother in Shantou, and their journey home brings that silence into the open.
Dear You begins with a grandson searching for his grandfather and reaches an older woman's letters and a family history shaped by separation across the sea. The films move between generations rather than following one continuing set of characters. Lan has also worked beyond fiction features, directing a documentary film on Guangdong dialect filmmaking.
