KwanTeo Night: Chaoshan Short Film Selection
新春观潮之夜2026·潮汕短片年选The 2026 Springtime KwanTeo Night brought four Chaoshan-connected shorts to the former Shantou Film Company on February 20: Farewell Taipei, Connection, Gone People and Echoes of the Long Day.
About the Topic
The screening took place in a small room on the second floor of the former Shantou Film Company, during Springtime KwanTeo's “From the Top” program. Its four films approached distance in different ways: a departure from Taipei, a relationship with the dead, family life in a hometown, and a young person's memory of leaving.
Their means of production were just as varied. Zheng Miaoxin shot Farewell Taipei on DV while studying in Taiwan, working with friends as performers. Xiao Zeyu adapted a Chaoshan literary story into Connection on a phone during a one-week KwanTeo workshop. Before making Gone People, Kong Junying spent time living with her grandmother and uncle, then invited family members into the film. Chen Jiaxiang developed Echoes of the Long Day through the Mountain-and-Sea project with a larger team. The evening set these different ways of making films beside one another.
