About the Work
Heaven’s Beat centres on young people in Chaoshan who hope to make a life through music. Director Gao Feng has said that the experiences of a local band helped shape the story’s focus on a group of musicians and the choices they face.
Gao has also described an effort to bring Teochew opera and hip-hop into the film’s music. According to him, the cast rehearsed in Mandarin before performing their lines in Teochew.
