Shantou Stories (TBC)
汕头故事Directed by Lai Xinyun and made by students at Shantou University, this film brings together four stories of life in the city of Shantou.
About the Work
Its four stories follow a joss-paper shop, a woman returning from overseas, a man who has moved to the city, and the experience of being asked to speak Mandarin. Together, they look at changes in Shantou and the ways people navigate them.
The project began as a short course assignment. Encouraged by Hu Lufeng to keep developing the stories as a film, Lai and a team of more than thirty students carried it forward.
