KwanTeo Night — 2021
观潮之夜2021Restarting after a pandemic pause (February 15, 2021, Zhanglin, Chenghai): a walk through the ancient port with Dr. Chen Ye, a taste of Zhanglin food, and at night short films inside a century-old house — "the tide sounds rise again at the ancient port."
About the Topic
The 2021 Spring Festival arrived mid-pandemic, and live events were still constrained everywhere. KwanTeo chose Zhanglin for its spring gathering. In the afternoon, the "Ancient Port Walk" traced the Yongding Tower, Xinxing Street, the Wind God Temple, the Xitang Garden, and Dehe Lane; the "Taste of Zhanglin" continued over food; and as night fell, "The Tide Sounds Rise" screened films in a hundred-year-old house.
Three works screened: Lin Qiying's Secret Base, Chen Boqi and Chen Jianhang's Dear Changlin, and the 2017 Guangzhou University animation Out of the Garden. The film posters — "Dear Zhanglin," "Out of the Garden," "Secret Base" — are preserved in the archive's screening-poster folder. Screening Chaoshan films inside a house carrying the memory of the diaspora made cinema and space gloss each other: the tide of the ancient port and the tide on screen, overlapping in one night.
